The Rapid Rise Of Internet Usage

Since its inception internet usage has been growing rapidly year by year. In fact by March 2007 about 1,114,274,426 people around the globe were found to be involved in using the internet.

However with the increase in the number of people using the internet the amount of spam also being sent is steadily increasing as well. Today it is believed that around 90% of all emails being sent over the internet are made up from spam.

Certainly many people involved in watching internet security believe that even in 2007 that many people will find it difficult to keep up with all the new threats to our computer security as well as the hundreds even thousands of scams that are now occurring on a daily basis.

But not only is spam affecting how effectively a system works but also many network administrators for various companies are now faced with junk mail also. These mails are ladened with images and which take up almost 3 times as much storage space as well as 3 times more internet bandwidth in order that they may be processed.

Currently China is the biggest internet user with people in that country spending around 2 billion hours online a week, whilst in the US people are only spending roughly 129 million hours online each week. What makes this more astounding is that currently the internet usage in China is only being carried out by around 11.7% of the population, compared to well over half of the population in the US using it. Plus this will further increase as the country prepares for 2008 when Beijing will be hosting the Summer Olympics.

However the region of the world where the most internet usage is taking place is Asia. Currently the percentage of people using the internet in Asia is 34.5% whilst other regions such as North America and Europe account for a major part of the internet usage around the globe today.

In fact evidence has shown that during December 2005 and December internet usage had gone up by 10% and currently the most widely viewed sites around the world today are still Microsoft sites, along with Google and Yahoo. In fact at the end of December 2006 Microsoft sites had 508 million visitors who were unique to their sites compared to the 494 million to Google and 476 million to Yahoo.

What is true to say however that as more and more people are provided with access to the world wide web and all it has to offer then internet usage will increase even more.
