Advantages And Disadvantages Of Cable Internet Usage
Of all markets relating to internet usage, broadband internet access has become the most rapidly growing and developing ever since 2000. In this article we will take a closer look broadband and cable internet usage.
Most broadband technologies available today use either DSL or cable modems, but they are also now starting to introduce both VDSL and optical fiber connections as well. With the introduction of fiber optic cables for use in broadband internet access technology this has meant some real changes to the way the internet is used.
Firstly using fiber optic cables has meant that the transmission of information can be carried out over long distances and is much more cost effective then using more traditional copper wire systems. Whilst for those locations around the world where people are unable to gain access to either cable, ADSL or community organizations then people have started to have Wi-Fi networks installed instead.
Certainly having access to internet through a cable system does have both its advantages and disadvantages and these are provided below. Advantages
1. It provides the user with constant data speed for each channel that is provided.
2. It allows for 2 way high speed data transmission which ADSL can not provide.
3. One channel is available to be used for normal telephone conversations whilst the other channel used for data transmission will not be disturbed.
4. There are no limitations as to how far the lines are allowed to go. Disadvantages
1. The modems and telephones for this system are much more expensive than an ordinary dial up modem would cost.
2. It is extremely difficult to get cable lines installed.
3. You may well lose some of the bandwidth so reducing the connection speed when the phone line is being used. Certainly in the US a lot of homeowners will prefer to have DSL (digital subscriber lines) installed in their homes because it is much cheaper than cable. However when it comes to download speeds cable internet services provide a much faster download speed than DSL has to offer. However there are now new issues arising in relation to cable internet usage. Many of the cable companies providing this service to their customers are now looking to charge their customers if they excessively use the internet. Unfortunately the infrastructure that they have put in place means that a person can actually be charged for someone else's excessive use of the internet as they are unable to monitor the system correctly.
