Company Internet Usage Policies

For many company's today being able to control their employee's use of the internet is extremely important if they want to ensure that productivity levels remain high. By keeping productivity levels at their optimum then the profits the company will produce will remain high also. So just how can a company internet usage be enforced.

Certainly it does not matter whether you run a big or small company if the employees have access to the internet at work then at some stage there are likely to be situations where it is being misused by them. In fact in surveys carried out recently it has been discovered that people whilst at work are spending twice as long on the internet compared to those who use the internet at home. Unfortunately a large proportion of those at work who have access to the internet will be using it for personal rather than business use. This misuse can end up costing a company thousands of dollars in loss revenue each year.

So in order to combat this problems where employees are likely to misuse the internet most companies are now putting an internet usage policy in place. In fact every company today that uses computers whether they be large or small is providing a written policy in relation not to just internet but also computer use as well.

The company internet policy will contain information relating to various areas involving the employee's use of the internet. In this policy there are certain areas that it should cover.

1. It should inform them which actions are prohibited when it comes to using the internet.

2. It should inform the employees that the company reserves the right to monitor not just their computer usage but also their internet usage at all times if they so wish.

3. The company should through this policy inform its employees that it has the right to withdraw any employee's access to not just the internet but also to e-mail and computers if the company deems this to be appropriate.

Certainly more and more companies are looking for ways to protect not only themselves and their business, but their employees from unwanted intrusions as well as possible legal action. Therefore installing a company internet usage policy is one way of ensuring that this is achieved. But what is important that when setting out such policies a company makes all employees aware of the conditions as well as what actions will be taken if these are not adhered to.
