The Benefits Of Using An Internet Usage Meter

There are some people who do not have the benefit of having an internet connection with unlimited bandwidth. Therefore many have now turned to using an internet usage meter which enables them to monitor the internet connection bandwidth.

But along with it being able to provide this facility to the user this particular tool can also help to monitor other sectors of their internet usage. It is able to monitor the following:-

1. It monitors all internet traffic through all the various network connections.

2. It displays real time numerical and graphical data relating to transfer rates.

3. It will be able to tell you just how efficiently your internet connection is working.

Currently most meters will support Windows 95, 98, NT4, 2000 and XP. However there are some systems such as DU Meter which are compatible with Windows Vista.

As well as being able to work alongside the above software programs most meters today can work with the various types of network connections including telephone modes, DSL, LAN, satellite and cable modems.

Certainly systems like the DU Meter are able to provide the information in either graphical, numerical or a combination of the two. When looking at the meter the download speed for your internet connection will show in red whilst the upload speed will show in green.

Other features that many of these internet usage meters include are as follows:-

1. It allows you to export the information into different file formats including Excel and HTML.

2. It allows you as the user to closely supervise all uploads and downloads on to your system.

3. Can work with any type of internet connection including dial up as well as cable modems, ADSL, Ethernet cards and ISDN.

4. These internet usage meter software packages allow the user to specify a specific network interface that they wish to use.

5. Plus each package is very simple to install and requires no changes be made to the Windows system files at any stage.

So if you are someone who is unsure just how much bandwidth they have available and are entitled to use a internet usage meter is an essential tool to have installed upon their PC. By doing this you will end up saving yourself money as you know when you are getting close to the limit and any additional bandwidth you do use will cost you.
