Measure Internet Usage

The 3 Ways To Measure Internet Usage

There are 3 main ways in which you can measure internet usage. The three ways are known as user centric, site centric and network centric. We will be taking a closer look at just what network centric has to offer after we have briefly explained the other ways in which you can measure internet usage.

1. User Centric

This allows a person to measure internet usage by installing software on to each PC and then monitoring it through each PC.

2. Site Centric

This allows the marketer for a website to monitor just how particular visitors to a website are interacting with it.

3. Network Centric

Allows the network administrator to monitor the data which has been collected directly from the ISP networks of a businesses computer system.

Now we will take closer look at a program devised by a company called Hitwise which can help a business to learn about how to monitor people who are visiting their website.

Hitwise as developed this software so that ISPs (Internet Service Providers) are able to analyze various website usage logs that they have created on their networks. All the data is sent anonymously to Hitwise relating to the viewing of the websites including what pages were requested, how many visits occurred and the average time that each visitor spent at the websites or web pages. Plus it can provide it users with information regarding specific demographics or lifestyle criteria's that their clients request. Plus if a client so wishes this service is able to provide the user with detailed information relating to the search terms used as well as providing them with detailed analysis of the movements a visitor has made between particular sites.

However the information that this particular company extracts with regard to be able to measure internet usage will contain no personal information that is either seen or captured by Hitwise. This data then helps a company to make decisions with regard to effectively marketing their business to those target markets that will help then to increase their revenue levels. Also it means that a company will be more proactive when it comes time to produce a marketing strategy that will be more effective than that of any of its competitors.
